I am standing in a room I made. This room holds all of you. Within this space is a portrait of each one of you. I cannot disconnect you from the places you have been–we have been. In an effort to preserve the memory of you I have set out to create a space where we can be together.

I AM STANDING IN A ROOM I MADE is a series of portraits that were created for the exhibition Ripple/Cluster at the Maryland Gallery located on the University of Maryland Campus in College Park, MD. This collection of works began by referencing photographs from my families archive, expanding and reimagining them using digital photography and expansive photographic printing techniqes on textiles. The work seeks to ask what is a portrait? and how can imagery be used to create conversation and document relationships. Each image is layered, manipulated, or re-imagined in order to tell the story of time in a non-linear, additive way—much like our own recollection of memories.
